National Walking Day sets the stage for STEP, AL!VE’s walking club

The first National Walking Day observed in 2007 was a way to promote healthy, active lifestyles. The observance grew to a month-long campaign highlighting the importance of exercise and walking. Many organizations use National Walking Day as a platform to promote healthy living in their communities. AL!VE is joining the festivities and will kick off its walking club – STEP – on National Walking Day, April 6.

STEP is founded on the Capital Area Health Alliance’s Let’s Walk! Initiative to promote walking and to create more walkable communities so residents have more places to be physically active in a safe and fun environment.  And joining a walking group promotes several health benefits including improving heart and bone health, reducing stress, increasing energy and improving sleep.

All community members are invited to join STEP. Simply sign up during the kick-off. Group walks will start on EXPLORE, AL!VE’s indoor walking path, at noon Mondays and Wednesdays beginning April 6. The group will also walk outside when weather permits.

AL!VE is an experience-based, destination health park that opened in November 2011. All mid-Michigan residents and visitors are welcome at AL!VE – there are no entry fees or membership requirements. Visit www.myalive.com or call 517.541.5800 for more information.
