The 4th annual Family Health & Fitness Day celebration is 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 27. This free annual event offers a variety of interactive family activities and educational experiences.
“We are committed at AL!VE to creating a healthier community,” said Jake Campbell, AL!VE health and wellness manager. “This starts with educating families now, and continuing to pass on that knowledge to future generations. Family Health and Fitness Day is one way we can share and support that education process.”
According to Family Health & Fitness Day USA, the event encourages the entire family to get involved in physical activity, one of the goals of the U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health. In addition, the report states the majority of Americans, and especially children from 12 to 21, are not exercising enough.
Participants of all ages can expect to enjoy games, crafts, a bounce house, rock climbing wall, painting in HARVEST, science demonstrations from Impression 5, plus a community walk and cooking demonstrations. Some adult-focused activities include a Good Form Walking clinic lead by Playmakers, chair massages and a sampler for one of the newest AL!VE programs, CrossFit. Free childcare will be provided in GROW, the children’s recreation and development area at AL!VE, by PNC Bank volunteers.
