Save the date for HealthFest 2014

Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital is getting ready for HealthFest, its free annual community event offered this year in partnership with the Capital Area Health Alliance, based on the theme of “Choosing Health.”

HealthFest 2014 will be 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Saturday, March 1, at AL!VE: Your Community Well-Being Place in Charlotte. It will feature special exhibits and demonstrations from a variety of health-related organizations and specialists.

HGB plans to celebrate its history with community

Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital celebrates 80 years, just as Charlotte’s Sesquicentennial year is being recognized in many ways.  Milestones inspire us to look around and ask when some of our wonderful assets appeared on the scene and who are the people behind the names we see. For example, the four founders of our community can easily be recalled with a simple walk around the Courthouse Square museum block, reading the four street signs of Cochran, Lawrence, Bostwick, and Harris.

AL!VE’s cooking challenge fund-raiser showcases local professional and home chefs

AL!VE, the experience-based destination health park in Charlotte, Mich., is hosting a Bring Your A Game fund-raiser that features local home and professional chefs competing in a contest similar to shows seen on the Food Network.

The Chef’s Challenge begins at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 23 at AL!VE. Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is $5 per person or $20 per family. The audience will watch contestants create a delicious meal in 30 minutes using three mystery ingredients and a pantry with more than 50 items.

Marilyn Dobbs: Celebrating a life of generosity and compassion

To label Marilyn Dobbs as your average human being would be a total misrepresentation of who she really was in the eyes of those who knew her best.

According to her husband Ed of more than 30 years, she believed there were two types of people in this world … Tiggers and Eeyores.

“Tiggers are those who never feel sorry for themselves and never quit and Eeyores are the complainers and always give up,” he states. “Marilyn was definitely a Tigger.”
