The Big Salad is joining AL!VE, Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital’s experience-based destination health park in Charlotte, Mich. It will bring healthy nutrition to patrons by opening NOURISH by The Big Salad in fall 2014. The new location will stretch The Big Salad’s traditional menu offerings to include smoothies, fruits, specialty coffees and breakfast items.

AL!VE: Your Community Well-Being Place in Charlotte, Mich., is offering summer field trip options for daycare centers and small children’s groups.Small children’s groups are invited to AL!VE for several unique field trip experiences throughout the summer. Each field trip option offers a 90- to 120-minute guided program. Experiences are designed for either preschool-aged (3-5 years) or school-aged (6-12 years) children. If a group contains mixed ages, a program can be specifically designed to accommodate their needs.
Washington Elementary and Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital, with the assistance of several local supporters, are collaborating to kick off a community garden project June 3 at AL!VE.
The project is funded by a grant through Fuel Up to Play 60, an in-school nutrition and physical activity program founded by the National Dairy Council and the National Football League.
Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital and Sparrow Hospital are hosting an interactive heart health event featuring free blood pressure and BMI (body mass index) checks as part of American Heart Month.
The free event is 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, at AL!VE, 800 W. Lawrence Ave., Charlotte.
The heart health program features a presentation by a panel of local physician experts, as well as education on stress management, healthy eating, and the importance of knowing your health numbers.
Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital is getting ready for HealthFest, its free annual community event offered this year in partnership with the Capital Area Health Alliance, based on the theme of “Choosing Health.”
HealthFest 2014 will be 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Saturday, March 1, at AL!VE: Your Community Well-Being Place in Charlotte. It will feature special exhibits and demonstrations from a variety of health-related organizations and specialists.
AL!VE is pleased to bring FITKids to local 7th and 8th grade students. Fitness Initiative Targeting Kids, FITKids, uses fun, engaging and creative activities to help young people make healthier choices regarding nutrition and physical activity. The eight-week program is 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Nov. 19.
"We are moving our coffee program up to a new level using the best product available, served by friendly staff in a beautiful building,” said Patrick Sustrich, AL!VE executive director. “The opportunity to partner with a local company who is passionate about their coffee is exciting.”
AL!VE extends its congratulations to Chef Doreen Ackerson, who was awarded $250 at the health park's recent Bring Your “A” Game Grilling Competition.
AL!VE is hosting its second Bring Your A Game chef’s competition. This year’s grilling challenge will bring local home and professional chefs together to compete for a chance to win a $250 cash prize.
The Chef’s Grilling Challenge is 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13. Doors open at 6 p.m., and admission is $5 per person or $20 per family. There will be door prizes, kids’ games and hors d’oeuvres for attendees.
AL!VE has launched “A” Woodworking Competition. Participants will create a rendition of "A," the AL!VE mascot and the chosen winner will receive $100 cash.
