Free Sparrow and HGB community event promotes heart health

Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital and Sparrow Hospital are hosting an interactive heart health event featuring free blood pressure and BMI (body mass index) checks as part of American Heart Month.

The free event is 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, at AL!VE, 800 W. Lawrence Ave., Charlotte.

The heart health program features a presentation by a panel of local physician experts, as well as education on stress management, healthy eating, and the importance of knowing your health numbers.

Save the date for HealthFest 2014

Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital is getting ready for HealthFest, its free annual community event offered this year in partnership with the Capital Area Health Alliance, based on the theme of “Choosing Health.”

HealthFest 2014 will be 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Saturday, March 1, at AL!VE: Your Community Well-Being Place in Charlotte. It will feature special exhibits and demonstrations from a variety of health-related organizations and specialists.

Heisey, HGB orthopedic surgeon, offers less invasive ACL reconstruction

Dr. Meredith Heisey with Mid-Michigan Orthopaedic Institute is bringing a new, less-invasive anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, reconstruction procedure to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital.
 
One of the most common knee injuries is an ACL tear. The ACL is one of four major knee ligaments and it is critical for knee stability. An ACL injury is most commonly sports related, especially in sports that involve sudden stops and changes in direction like basketball, soccer or volleyball. A torn ACL that requires surgery can't be repaired, it must be replaced.
 

Joint Sparrow and HGB program promotes heart health in honor of American Heart Month

Learn stretching and relaxation techniques or attend a heart healthy cooking demonstration at an interactive heart health event hosted by Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital and Sparrow Hospital.

The free event, celebrating American Heart Month, is 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at AL!VE: Your Community Well-Being Place, 800 Lawrence Ave., Charlotte. No registration is required.

The event also will feature complimentary blood pressure and BMI checks.

HGB hosts its free annual community event, HealthFest, at AL!VE

It's time for Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital's free, community health fair. HealthFest is 8 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m., Saturday, March 2. This year it will take place at AL!VE: Your Community Well-Being Place in Charlotte. 

HealthFest is a fun-filled, informative and family-friendly event that provides a wealth of health information, screenings and resources to the community. This year's activities focus on the Michigan Health and Wellness 4 x 4 Plan.

HGB focuses on Breast Cancer Awareness in October

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital offers information on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, its risk factors and preventative measures.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women beside skin cancer, and the death rate is higher than any other cancer except lung cancer. According to the American Cancer Society about 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime.

Hayes Green Beach Wellness Center plans health, fitness day

CHARLOTTE — The Hayes Green Beach Wellness Center once again celebrates National Family Health and Fitness Day with a free event and activities for the whole family Saturday, Sept. 29.

According to Family Health & Fitness Day USA, the annual observance was conceived, in part, as a response to the U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health.

A Women’s Health Experience – a free community event Sunday, Oct. 14

Charlotte, Mich. – Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs-Charlotte are hosting A Women’s Health Experience from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14. The free event takes place at AL!VE, 800 W. Lawrence Ave., in Charlotte.
