Sparrow Eaton Hospital and AL!VE will host a major Heart Month event on Thursday, Feb. 13, showcasing Sparrow Eaton as the only Intensive Cardiac Rehab program in Mid-Michigan and one of only four in the state.
The free interactive event will cover how various elements, such as exercise, nutrition and a healthy mindset can positively impact cardiovascular health. It will feature heart health screenings, a heart-healthy lunch, and a presentation by Sparrow TCI Cardiologist Joel Cohn, M.D., and a representative from the Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehab program. The presentation will address both the medical interventions and lifestyle changes that can be used to manage or reverse the effects of cardiovascular disease.
A registered Sparrow Nurse will conduct screenings for cholesterol and blood pressure (no appointment necessary) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at AL!VE, 800 West Lawrence Avenue, Charlotte. Lunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the heart health presentation starting at noon. Call 517.541.5800, option 1, to register for lunch.
The event will discuss the benefits of the Pritikin program and how lifestyle changes can have a major impact on your cardiovascular health, said Jake Campbell, Director of Sparrow Eaton’s Health and Wellness Services.
Approved by Medicare and covered by most private insurances, the Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehab program is one of the most comprehensive available as it addresses not only exercise but a Patient’s lifestyle choices. Patients work with Sparrow Eaton dietitians to learn about healthy meals, meet with clinical social workers to help with managing stress and depression, and incorporate yoga and strength training into their routines.
“When you also take into account all of the other services and the environment that AL!VE provides, there is no program in the state that can offer what we do,” Campbell said.
